Charleston and 1920s dance

I’m a Charleston dance teacher and 1920s enthusiast. I teach a regular class in Reading, UK, on Thursday nights, and also run workshops before tea dances, vintage club nights, dinner dances, and at festivals and events.

I also offer 1920s style first dance choreography for weddings or civil partnerships, and Charleston dance hen parties.

I love jazz dance and I love improvising with a passion. The thing is, Charleston is such fun! While I love to see partner dances such as the Lindy Hop and swing, I just can’t get enough of solo improvised jazz dance. Just have a look at the Charleston on youtube in the Ultimate Lindy Hop showdown, for instance, and Jitterbug Jam, and you’ll see what I mean about the excitement, individuality, comedy, bravado and showing off that’s possible to put into just 8 bars of solo authentic jazz dance!
